Shelbourne FC is delighted to announce the signing of Ellis Chapman from Sligo Rovers.
The 23-year-old has put pen to paper on a long term contract at Tolka Park and is the third new arrival to the Champions ahead of the 2025 season, following the signing of Ryan O’Kane and Daniel Kelly.
Chapman makes the move from the Showgrounds, where he was one of the League of Ireland’s standout performers last season.
He was a key part of the Sligo Rovers team that registered a number of big results across the year and pushed close for Europe, contributing a series of outstanding individual performances across the campaign for the Bit O’Red, Chapman made 34 appearances for John Russell’s men scoring 9 goals and getting 4 assists.
The signing of Chapman is a significant coup for the Reds, as the talented midfielder had plenty of suitors for his services both in Ireland and the UK. Chapman though has committed his future at Tolka Park.
Before lighting up the League of Ireland in 2024, the Englishman played in the UK with Cheltenham Town, Oldham Athletic, Chesterfield and Lincoln City having come through the academy at Leicester City.
Ellis Chapman said: “I am absolutely delighted to be here, I’m looking forward to playing for and representing everything all that Shelbourne football club is. Shels is a huge club which aligns with my ambitions. I can’t wait to meet everyone and play at the home of Tolka Park, the home of the Champions.”
Damien Duff, Shelbourne FC manager said: “I was very impressed with Ellis all last season and even more so when I had a meeting with him recently. He has a real football brain and sees the game so clearly for such a young man. Ellis can play a few positions but most importantly brings big stats. I am really excited to have him play here and to help him take his game to the next level. He is a great signing that will elevate the quality of the squad again.”
Luke Byrne, Shelbourne FC Technical Director said: “Ellis is a huge signing for us and one we’ve been targeting for a long time. He had an outstanding season at Sligo and we’re excited at the potential he has to kick on again in his career. He’s an elegant, composed footballer who scores goals and as a man he has really impressed us with his understanding of the game and the ambition he has. He had a lot of options but showed a real desire to come here. Welcome to the Champions Ellis!”
