Elye Wahi (21) has failed to build on the promise he showed at Montpellier HSC, firstly at RC Lens and now at Olympique de Marseille. However, that didn’t prevent the latter, in the market for a replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, splashing out €25m on the forward in the summer.
However, thus far, he is nowhere near justifying that price tag. In 11 games for OM, he has just two goals, and he is now behind Neal Maupay, signed from Everton to be a back-up, in the pecking order at the Vélodrome. According to a report from La Provence, Wahi may be playing for his future with Les Phocéens in the coming weeks.
The publication reports that, like Lilian Brassier, who also arrived at Marseille for big money in the summer, Wahi could be allowed to leave the club in January. if he fails to raise his level and justify the club’s investment. Wahi’s contract with OM runs until the summer of 2029.
