Elye Wahi (21) has struggled to establish himself at Olympique de Marseille since making the move in the summer, however, L’Équipe understands that his future at the club is not under threat in the short-term.
Wahi signed from RC Lens for €25m back in the summer but has since been displaced in the starting line-up by Neal Maupay, who was brought in from Everton to be the back-up option. Wahi’s demotion looks to have been confirmed by Roberto De Zerbi, who confirmed Maupay’s “great importance” to OM.
La Provence reported that the former Montpellier HSC forward’s future at the Vélodrome may, therefore, have been in doubt. The publication reported that OM would be open to selling Wahi, in the event that a satisfactory offer arrived in January. However, this report has now been contested by L’Équipe.
The player’s desire is to remain at Marseille as he is determined to establish himself at his new club, whilst De Zerbi is also determined not to lose the forward.
