Chelsea's Levi Colwill passionately celebrated netting the third goal in their 4-0 thrashing of Southampton. Sounds unsurprising? Well, only until one realizes he had been a Saints' prodigy earlier.
Ask a Southampton fan about the club's Staplewood academy, and the answer will leave you in awe. That's because of what the campus has meant for the Saints throughout these years.
Known as the Saints' talent factory, yet, its importance feels beyond words. After all, it's been producing top-notch talents for quite long now.
But know what, sadly, all of them don't always succeed. In fact, while some like Tyler Dibling represent the academy's spirit forever, some do let it down as well.
By now, you might have guessed it, today we talk of one such player who despite being a homegrown name, turned out to be the academy's rebel.
It's ex-Saints prodigy and current Chelsea star Levi Colwill.
So, recently in the Blues' recent clash against Southampton, Levi Colwill scored the third goal for them. Already up 2-0, the defender's goal sealed the fixture, which ended as a 4-0 humiliation for the Saints.
Now, tell me, already ahead by two in the first half itself, did the third one necessitate a celebration, that too against your boyhood club? Maybe not. Yet that's what Colwill did, receiving huge criticism from the St. Mary's supporters present.
Still, if that didn't seem enough, the 22-year-old's recent words would surely sting Southampton fans.
As quoted by the Daily Echo, Colwill said on his celebration: “To do that and score against them, I just blacked out during the moment. For me, I think it was one of the best moments I've had in football."
But, you know what, this isn't new for the Saints fans at all. In fact, chances are the way they forgot about Che Adams and Charly Alcaraz, the fans might get over with Colwill soon.
