England will soon make the trip to Switzerland to defend their European crown after their fairytale triumph three years ago. The Lionesses have confirmed their basecamp will be in Zurich for the title-defending Euro 2025 campaign in Switzerland.

England made history in 2022 by lifting their first ever major trophy. Spearheaded by Sarina Wiegman and new captain Leah Williamson, the Lionesses beat Germany to secure the European title on home soil.

Here’s a look at everything you need to know about England’s Euro 2025 campaign.

England to set up camp in Zurich for Euro 2025

The England Lionesses have confirmed they will be based in the city of Zurich throughout their Euro 2025 campaign, as plans for their tournament basecamp and training centre have now been finalised.

The Lionesses’ performance-focused ‘home away from home’ will be the scenic 5-star Dolder Grand Hotel in the outskirts of Zurich. The picturesque accommodation is located in close proximity to the city centre, and the first-class facilities, including a spa and fully equipped gym, will provide England’s squad with the optimum environment to prepare and relax throughout the tournament.

More about Zurich

Zurich — boasting nearly three times the population of the capital city Bern — lies at the north end of Lake Zurich in northern Switzerland. The Lionesses will no doubt explore the picturesque lanes and waterfront promenades during their match-day walks and any downtime. With the players keen to carb load and plenty of Swiss potato-based dishes to enjoy, they’ll have options in abundance.

The Swiss Government have allowed free public transport for all valid ticket holders on match days, enabling England fans use of the excellent train and bus service. Supporters can also try out boats, lake steamers, funiculars and cablecars to explore the country on non-match days.

Wiegman confident in Lionesses Euro 2025 basecamp

England’s training base will be Sportanlage Au, a first-class sports complex in the nearby municipality of Opfikon. Home of FC Glattbrugg — an umbrella club with a men’s team who play in the sixth tier of Swiss football — multiple women’s teams and senior teams will allow the Lionesses access to their full-size training pitch, high performance gym and the necessary recovery facilities. The complex was selected from 23 potential options by the English FA.

England’s group stage fixtures see them play at Stadion Letzigrund and Kybunpark in St Gallen. The venues are just over an hour from their accommodation — minimising travel could be key to maximise recovery time.

Head coach Wiegman said: “Finding the right environment for the team to prepare and train but also rest and recover is one of the most importance elements for tournament football. We’ve seen in 2022 and 2023 our ‘home from home’ has been a key part of our success and we’re very confident we have found another basecamp that will meet all our needs.”

Kay Cossington, The FA’s women’s technical director, added: “We place huge importance on the identification of a basecamp as a project and work began immediately after the World Cup in 2023. Over the course of the last year, 23 facilities across Switzerland have been meticulously assessed and we’re absolutely delighted to call the Dolder Grand Hotel and Sportanlage Au our home for the tournament.”

Who will England play at Euro 2025?

Euro 2025 will kick off on July 2nd. England will get their tournament underway on July 5th against France. The previous meeting between the two teams saw Hannah Hampton produce a fine display in goal for the Lionesses to preserve a 2-1 scoreline. England then face the Netherlands, the team who benefitted from England’s shock early exit from the Nations League finals. In their last face-to-face, the Lionesses came back from 2-0 down in a thrilling second half display.

The Lionesses will then take on some familiar faces in Wales. Cymru will make history by competing in their first ever major tournament.

How can I watch Euro 2025?

UK fans unable to travel will be able to watch the match action live across the BBC and ITV. The broadcasters will show fixture between them, while the final will be shown on both main channels. Half of the matches will be shown across BBC TV channels and the iPlayer, with highlights and clips also available on the BBC Sport website, app and social media platforms.

ITV will provide coverage of the other half across ITV1 and ITV4, with simulcast and catch up on ITVX. Match highlights will also be on ITVX, as well as ITV’s social media platforms.

Alongside TV coverage and highlights, live audio commentary will be broadcast on BBC Radio 5 Live and 5 Sports Extra. Fans will be able to listen to 5 Live coverage on BBC Sounds, DAB radio and the BBC Sport website.
