FC Utrecht have announced that Jens Toornstra has signed a one-year contract extension at the club, securing his services for another season at the Stadion Galgenwaard. The 24/25 campaign will be Toornstra’s 15th season in the Dutch top-flight and he’s showing no signs of stopping anytime soon.
Toornstra, 35, kicked off his professional career in 2009 with ADO Den Haag before making his first move to Utrecht in the 12/13 campaign. The attacking midfielder featured 58 times for Utrecht during his first spell at the club, netting 23 goals. A move to Feyenoord followed, and during his nine years at De Kuip, Jens Toornstra solidified his status as a cult hero. The former Netherlands international lifted two KNVB cups, two Super Cups and an Eredivisie title with Feyenoord. Jens Toornstra returned to Utrecht during the 22/23 campaign, and he’s played a huge role in their push for European football next season.
“Jens is one of the most experienced pros on the Dutch fields. He knows the Eredivisie better than anyone and is now just as fit as during his first period at FC Utrecht. His statistics are downright impressive,” said FC Utrecht’s Technical Director Jordy Zuidam. “Jens has a great track record, but always puts himself fully at the service of the team: a team player, who is still of value to the team on a weekly basis. On and off the pitch. He is also an example for the younger players. We are happy to have him next season as well.”
