FC Utrecht Women beat PSV this weekend. The leaders of the Azerion Women’s Eredivisie were still undefeated, but their run came to an end in the Domstad on Saturday afternoon after an entertaining, and goal-rich, match as Linda Helbing’s team won 3-2.
In Stadion Galgenwaard, FC Utrecht and PSV provided an intriguing clash for the eighth matchweek. The duel between third and first in the league began with Lotje de Keijzer’s 24th-minute goal as Nikita Tromp slotted her through, and the forward fired in via the leg of PSV captain Gwyneth Hendriks. Elisha Kruize then doubled the lead before half-time after sloppy defending by Chimera Ripa.
After a hesitant start to the second half, Riola Xhemaili headed one back just past the hour mark and then scored the equalizer with his head five minutes later. However, despite the comeback, FC Utrecht responded with a free-kick. From this, Maxime Snellenberg beat the PSV goalkeeper with a brilliant header before Utrecht hunkered down to hold their ground in the final exchanges
PSV’s first defeat this season now means Ajax can take top spot in the league from the Brabanders on Sunday. If they win against Telstar, the Amsterdammers will open up a three-point gap.
Elsewhere in the league Excelsior took a point against Fortuna Sittard. For a long time, it looked as if the bottom team of the competition would take all three points. The Kralingers took the lead via Chelsea Homan. A low shot into the far corner was enough for 1-0 after 39 minutes. After 88 minutes, it was Femke Prins who scored the equalizer.
PEC Zwolle managed a point in their match against ADO Den Haag. After the break, it was ADO player Daniëlle Noordermeer who gave the final push from a corner in a pinball machine in front of the Zwolle goal. A rocket from the foot of Zoë Zuidberg was enough for the 1-1 final score.
