Étienne Capoue’s (36) career has taken an interesting turn and one which calls into question whether he will ever play football professionally again.

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Watford midfielder Capoue has spent the last three years at La Liga side Villarreal, where he went on to make 148 appearances, including 40 last season. However, despite playing a prominent role for the La Liga side last campaign, his contract was not renewed.

As a result, he has been a free agent since the start of July, with a new project yet to present itself. However, as per Relevo, he has now joined a new club, albeit not a football club. The publication understands that Capoue is currently training with Spanish fourth-division basketball team CB Jovens L’Eliana, who are based near Valencia. He even competed in a recent friendly, which his new side won.

The former France international was pictured all smiles with his new team following that victory, although as he does not yet have a licence, he can not compete in any official matches.
