Former AC Milan player Alberico Evani has put forward Roberto Mancini as a candidate to take over as head coach if Paulo Fonseca continues to falter.
Fonseca’s position has come under scrutiny repeatedly this season, and this time because of the continued poor league form. A draw to Genoa following the defeat to Atalanta has left the Rossoneri down in eighth spot.
As a result, fans are debating which manager could replace him, even if media reports suggest that he is not exactly on the verge of being sacked. We explored a few different options in a recent feature from the realistic to the dream scenarios, and Evani has put forward another idea.
In an interview with Radio Anch’io lo Sport he spoke about the idea about Mancini – formerly of Inter and the Italian national team – taking charge at Milan after leaving the Saudi Arabia job a few weeks ago. It is worth noting Evani was his assistant with the Azzurri.
“His curriculum speaks for Roberto, he has coached top teams. He has experience in abundance. I played with him and he had a certain type of character. As a coach he has managed to smooth it out: he would bring back that team spirit that I see Milan is missing at the moment,” he said (via Calciomercato.com).
On Ibrahimovic, he added: “He needs to gain experience, he wasn’t born a director. He’s had some difficulties. Ibra is intelligent, he has personality, but he needs to change his mentality: he needs to forget that he was a great player and throw himself into this other role. Milan needs a manager of a certain level.”
