Everton are reportedly ‘concretely positioned’ to sign Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka, according to journalist Loic Tanzi.

The Toffees are looking for midfield additions, and after missing out on Strasbourg man Habib Diarra, they have turned to the Chelsea star.

Everton midfielder Orel Mangala sustained an injury during the 1-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion. He is out for the rest of the season with the Toffees talking to his parent club, Lyon, about returning him. They need bodies in the engine room.

Everton and Chelsea have already done business this season, with striker Armando Broja joining the Goodison Park outfit on a season-long loan, although there are talks to terminate that deal after the Albanian’s latest injury.

Everton had eyes on one of either Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall or Chukwuemeka – players surplus to requirement at Chelsea- and it appears they are in a strong position to land the latter.

Toffees boss David Moyes has returned to the Merseyside club and has got off to an excellent start, winning two of his first three games in charge, leaving them seven points clear of the bottom three.

If Everton get Moyes the right additions, they can push up into mid-table at the end of this tumultuous season, and Chukwuemeka is a potentially exciting signing.

He can play behind the striker or in a deeper midfield position where his carrying is a massive asset. The 21-year-old has been blighted by injuries at Stamford Bridge and needs a change of scenery, and Everton can be the perfect landing spot.

Chukwuemeka impressed when he got a chance to strut his stuff under former Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino but has struggled to get a look-in this term.

Perhaps, at Everton, under Moyes, he can begin to take steps toward fulfilling his immense potential. The former Aston Villa star can blossom into an excellent midfield performer.
