Everton have sacked manager Sean Dyche just hours before their FA Cup third round clash with Peterborough United.

According to widespread reports on Thursday, club captain Séamus Coleman and former defender Leighton Baines will take charge of tonight's match.

New owners the Friedkin Group have made their first big decision since coming in late last year, departing with the Englishman after just under two years' at the helm.

A brief statement on the club's website read: "Everton Football Club can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as Senior Men’s First Team Manager with immediate effect.

"Ian Woan, Steve Stone, Mark Howard and Billy Mercer have also left the Club."

Dyche joined the Toffees in January 2023 with the club battling for survival ever since.

Everton needed until the last day of the season in 2022/23 to stay in the top flight and were hamstrung last term with a six-point deduction for failing to adhere to Financial Fair Play rules.

Dyche did eventually keep Everton up though as they finished in 15th place but things have failed to kick on under his stewardship with the Goodison Park side 16th in the table.

José Mourinho has been tipped as a potential successor to Dyche, with former boss David Moyes and Burnley managed Scott Parker also reportedly in the frame.
