L’Equipe reports that Lyon centre-back Jake O’Brien (23) will sign for Everton after both clubs reach an agreement worth €20m. The Ligue 1 side are in for a hefty return on investment after signing the 23-year-old last summer from Crystal Palace for €1m. The Ireland international exceeded all expectations and became an invaluable part of Les Gones‘ squad, so much so that there was an acceptance within the Ligue 1 club that O’Brien would leave amid renewed interest from Premier League outfits. Everton eventually fended off competition from Wolverhampton and Brentford to secure the services of O’Brien. The outlet adds that Nottingham Forest outbid the Toffees but the Ireland international rejected the opportunity to join the Trees. Everton are expected to confirm the signing of O’Brien in the coming days. Should Everton part ways with O’Brien in the future, Lyon would receive 10 % of the transfer fee.
