Former Premier League striker Stan Collymore wants Liam Delap to avoid a transfer to Manchester United by any means necessary.
The Red Devils are currently searching the market for a new striker who can be an upgrade on their current options, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.
The EPL giants have been linked with a plethora of profiles. The most recurring names on the club’s news feeds are Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen, but the shortlist also includes the likes of Hugo Ekitike, Benjamin Sesko and Jean-Philippe Mateta.
Moreover, Delap is reportedly a candidate on the rise. As reported earlier today, the 22-year-old has a release clause that allows him to free himself of Ipswich Town for £40 million, and in any case, the relegation strugglers are willing to negotiate a transfer.
However, Collymore insists the Man City youth product would commit a massive mistake by signing for a United side that is still in a state of turmoil.
“If I was Liam Delap, I would not join Man United this summer,” wrote the former Liverpool and Aston Villa striker in his latest column for CaughtOffside.
“I think they are not a credible enough team at the moment in terms of competing next season – maybe they can do it in the Carabao Cup or the FA Cup, but they certainly would not be able to do it in the Premier League.”

Collymore instead wants Delap to join one of his former employers, namely Nottingham Forest, who are enjoying a sensational campaign, currently sitting in a shocking 3rd place in the table.
The 54-year-old believes the Ipswich striker should take note from players like Anthony Elanga who found little success at Old Trafford, but became an instant hit with Forest.
“Instead, he should consider joining someone like Nottingham Forest, who are putting their mouth where their mouth is. All he needs to go is look at guys like Anthony Elanga, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Chris Wood, who have turned their fortunes around over the last 12 months, and they are now thriving – especially this season.
“I think Delap would enjoy playing there, especially if Forest were to qualify for next season’s Champions League. And in Nuno Espirito Santo.”
While Collymore may have brought up some valid points, the lure of joining one of the biggest clubs in the world could prove too much for Delap to resist, even with the Red Devils finding themselves in a dire state.
