Inter Milan keeper Josep Martinez made his first start in Serie A this season yesterday.

That was the result of an injury to Yann Sommer. Previously, the former Bayern Munich keeper had started every one of Inter’s matches so far during the campaign.

But there was no evidence of nerves, or that Martinez was feeling the pressure.

The former RB Leipzig and Las Palmas keeper was confident and assured in claiming crosses. He also looked solid with his distribution and passing.

Then, in the second half, Martinez made a vital save on an effort from Genoa striker Caleb Ekuban.

Therefore, Martinez has received praise. He has stepped into his role well and given a convincing display that he could be Inter’s starting keeper into the future.
