The former midfielder has carved out a thriving punditry and presenting career in the years since his playing days.

This has seen him become one of the major faces of Sky’s EFL coverage in recent years.

This has led to him going around all of the grounds in the three divisions as part of their broadcast, getting a taste of the best atmospheres along the way.

Prutton has singled out Bramall Lane, Elland Road, Hillsborough and St. Mary’s as some of the best places to visit as part of his work with Sky.

He also joked that he’s thankful the supporters of his former sides haven’t held any poor performances against him all these years later, claiming he enjoys seeing the different sets of fans at each ground.

“There’s different loves and likes for different stadiums for different reasons,” Prutton exclusively told Football League World.

“If you go to, say, a small stadium where it’s a bit more intimate, it’s wonderful to meet the local fans and the ones that week-in, week-out turning up.

“And the other side of it is, when you go to one that stays in my mind at the moment is Bramall Lane, which given my Wednesday connections is not said as a slight to them at all, but anywhere pitchside is just glorious.

“I did Sheffield United, Leeds pitchside, which was just a joy, a joy, a few Mondays back.

“I mention Wednesday because when we did the Hillsborough play-off game between them and Peterborough, the 5-4, was just the most bonkers game of football I’ve ever seen, and that was a wonderful experience and atmosphere.

“That’s the key thing about this, and this isn’t me avoiding the question — Wembley’s wonderful, seeing the joys, the emotions, of what the culmination of a season’s worth of work can lead to promotion.

“Or heartbreak at the last hurdle, that never ceases to amaze me, that will never get old.

“But, plenty of places I played in the past, the likes of Elland Road, the City Ground and the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Southampton’s another one, St. Mary’s, it’s nice to see familiar faces.

“And hopefully there’s that big wedge of time there’s still no [hard feelings], for any poor performances over a decade ago, they’ve forgiven me, which I do appreciate!”

Play-offs will be looking for top atmosphere of the season

Bramall Lane is looking increasingly likely to host a play-off semi-final second leg after the team’s dip in form in recent weeks, and Wilder will be hoping for the crowd to be at their absolute best on the day, if and when it comes.

The Stadium of Light will also be a difficult place to go for whichever opponent Régis Le Bris’ side faces in the promotion shootout.

While supporters will prefer the guarantee of automatic promotion, there is also something extra satisfying about gaining a place up a division through the play-offs, especially given the day out at Wembley Stadium.
