Stoke City have struck an agreement with League One side Blackpool for a deal which will see Niall Ennis depart the Bet 365 Stadium, Football League World can exclusively reveal.

The striker is now poised to mark the first player exit from the Potteries this month in what has been a quiet window to date for the Championship strugglers.

Mark Robins has thus far made just one addition to his side, who are 19th in the league, in the form of ex-Coventry City loanee Josh Wilson-Esbrand.

Stoke are next in action tomorrow afternoon, where they will welcome Gary Rowett's resurgent Oxford United to Staffordshire.

Stoke City and Blackpool FC reach Niall Ennis transfer agreement

Sources close to FLW have disclosed the two sides have reached a verbal agreement for Ennis, who has been lined up to seal a departure from the club less than twelve months after joining from Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers.

It's not yet clear just where personal terms are at between the relevant parties, but the agreement with Blackpool and Stoke shows a deal is not too far away.

Earlier this month, FLW broke the news that Ennis was of loan interest to Blackpool as well as Leyton Orient, though Steve Bruce is now set to land the striker's signature.

The 25-year-old is seemingly set to arrive as a replacement for Kyle Joseph, who joined Hull City last week in a move which was also first called by FLW.

Niall Ennis has struggled at Stoke City

It's not a surprise Ennis is edging closer to a return to the third-tier, having struggled for both regular game time and form in the Championship with Blackburn and the Potters.

The Wolves academy product, who formerly impressed in League One with Plymouth Argyle, has started just once in the Championship this season, with his nine appearances in total not yet yielding a goal or an assist.

Ennis did, however, score an extra-time winner against Sunderland to send Stoke to the FA Cup fourth-round, marking his second goal for the club in nearly a year.

Meanwhile, he gained his first start of the league campaign in Stoke's chastening 3-1 defeat at Portsmouth on Wednesday evening and played the full 90 minutes.
