Napoli have shown interest in Renato Veiga and are interested in a potential loan deal according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues completed as surprise move for Veiga in the summer when they paid Swiss side FC Basel €14m for the now 21-year-old.

Veiga was signed primarily as left back cover, but his versatility is believed to have been attractive to Chelsea given he can fill in both at centre back and in midfield.

Napoli interested in Veiga loan

Veiga has impressed in the performances he’s made this season and his form has seen him make his debut for Portugal, where he’s earned three caps.

The Portugal international has had to be patient with opportunities in the Premier League limited, and he’s started just one league game.

Veiga has fared better in the Conference League, where he’s started every game and scored his first two goals for the club against Gent and Astana.

Veiga arrived at Chelsea in the summer from Swiss side FC Basel.

The Portugal international hasn’t featured in the league since coming on as a late substitute in the win against Tottenham and was left out of the squad entirely for the defeat against Fulham because of his effort in training.

Romano has now reported the youngster is subject to interest from Napoli who are said to be interested in a potential loan move.

He took to X.com and said:

“Napoli have been showing interest in Chelsea defender Renato Veiga as an option for the January window on loan. There are more clubs interest, but still unclear whether Chelsea can let him go playing more or not. Maresca see Veiga as an important player.”

Given Chelsea’s issues at centre back with Wesley Fofana potentially out for the rest of the season, whilst Benoit Badiashile is still out until February it would seem mad to let Veiga go.

The Portuguese may still be young and relatively inexperienced but opportunities will come his way given the injury issues in defence, and if the Blues let Veiga leave they would also lose their left back cover so it doesn’t make sense on multiple fronts.
