Manchester United have agreed to sell Zidane Iqbal to FC Utrecht, according to The Athletic. The talented 20-year-old midfielder completed a medical on Monday and is set to join on a four-year contract. The Dutch side will reportedly pay just €1m for the player who has been at Manchester United since he was nine years old.
Iqbal, who was born in Manchester, signed his first professional contract at Old Trafford in April 2021. He made his first team debut later that year in a Champions League match against Young Boys. Iqbal is an agile and skilful central midfielder with an eye for goal. During the 20/21 U18 Premier League season he scored six goals in 14 appearances. Last season he featured 10 times for Manchester United’s U23s.
A large sell-on clause for Manchester United has been included in the deal. Iqbal is set to become Utrecht’s eighth signing of the summer. The side that finished seventh in the Eredivisie last season have already signed Ole Romeny, Adrian Blake, Mats Seuntjens and Marouan Azarkan among other players. The signing of Iqbal could turn out to be a bargain for FC Utrecht.
