Paulo Fonseca has confirmed that Christian Pulisic will not be available for Milan’s match against Roma in Serie A on Sunday, as he has suffered a new injury, despite having recently recovered from his recent calf issue.

The USMNT star limped off with an injury to his calf during Milan’s 2-1 loss to Atalanta at the beginning of December, which was expected to keep him out of action over the festive period.

Though Pulisic has come through his calf issue with no problems, he has now suffered a new injury to his ankle, Fonseca confirmed during his pre-match press conference on Saturday.

The former Chelsea and Dortmund winger will not be included in the matchday squad for the Roma match as a result.

“I expected to have Pulisic, he’s okay, he recovered from the calf problem, but he’s had an ankle issue over the last two days,” Fonseca told the press on Saturday.

“It came about in the recovery process, and he’s not ready to play tomorrow, not even off the bench.”

Reports on Friday suggested that Milan hope to have Pulisic back in time for the Supercoppa Italiana at the beginning of January, but it remains to be seen whether he will be available to play given his latest set-back.
