Omar Marmoush’s eye-catching debut for Manchester City caught the attention this weekend.
Marmoush made a big impression with a lively performance in City’s 3-1 win over Chelsea, having signed for the Premier League champions from Eintracht Frankfurt this month.
The 25-year-old has joined in a £59m deal after an explosive start to the Bundesliga season. Across the first half of the campaign, Marmoush scored 20 goals and provided 14 assists in 26 appearances for Frankfurt.
His impact and subsequent move to Manchester City has seen an old message from former Spurs striker Mido resurface.
Mido gave a 17-year-old Marmoush his first-team debut at Egyptian side Wadi Degla and said he knew his compatriot would go far.
In April 2024, Mido implored his old side to sign Marmoush from Frankfurt – having also done so with Mohamed Salah over a decade ago. At that time, Marmoush was coming towards the end of his debut season at Frankfurt, that saw the forward score 17 times in all competitions. He had joined the German side from divisional rivals Wolfsburg on a free transfer the previous summer.
Mido wrote on X: “Years ago I advised #Spurs to sign #Salah when he was still at #Basel. They never listened to me..now I’m telling you plz go for Marmoush he will be a great signing will fit in perfectly in Angie’s system as a left or right winger. Hard worker top professional and can score goals. Plz #Levy sign #Marmoush from #Frankfurt. #COYS.”
Maybe Spurs should listen to Mido the next time the Egyptian recommends one of his compatriots…
