Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is doubtful for Sunday’s La Liga clash against Girona due to an adductor injury.
Diario AS journalist Javi Miguel reports the injury is not serious, but the Dutch international could be rested against Girona as a precaution.
De Jong was substituted at half-time in the 3-0 win against Osasuna on Thursday.
He missed the first few months of the season due to an ankle injury and only returned to action in October.
De Jong’s importance has grown in the past couple of months for Hansi Flick’s side.
The former Ajax star has played a pivotal role in Barca’s unbeaten streak since the start of the year.
Injuries are starting to crop up for Barca, especially after the international break, which is a worrying sign.
Marc Casado will miss the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury in the league win against Atletico Madrid before the international break.
Forward Dani Olmo has been ruled out of action for two weeks after sustaining an adductor issue against Osasuna.
Barca defeated Osasuna comfortably to move three points clear at the top of the table, thanks to goals from Ferran Torres, Olmo and Robert Lewandowski.
Flick will likely rotate the squad as they are set to host Girona less than 72 hours after the win against Osasuna.
If De Jong is ruled out, the German manager will rely on the quality of Gavi and Fermin Lopez in midfield.
Prodigious winger Lamine Yamal could also be rested to manage his workload and keep him in the best shape for the upcoming games against Atletico and Borussia Dortmund.
