According to The Telegraph, Ajax left-back Owen Wijndal is on Fulham’s list of potential targets. With less than three days remaining in the summer transfer window, Fulham head coach Marco Silva is still looking to strengthen his side in various positions. Dutch defender Owen Wijndal has been identified as the club’s ideal left-back signing, as Antonee Robinson is currently the only player available in that position. It’s yet to be revealed whether Fulham want Wijndal on loan or permanently.
Owen Wijndal joined Ajax from AZ Alkmaar last summer for a fee of around €10m. It’s been a fairly tough start to life for the 23-year-old as he featured just 20 times in the Eredivisie last season and only started in 11 of those games. Ajax have recently recruited a new left-back, 21-year-old Gastón Ávila, who joined from Antwerp. This indicates that Wijndal could see even less game time this season if he remains at the Johan Cruyff Arena.
Fulham are expected to make an attempt for Wijndal, and the move would certainly be beneficial for the 11-time Netherlands international. A switch to Craven Cottage would see Wijndal link up with former Ajax teammate Calvin Bassey, who made a permanent move from Ajax to Fulham this summer. Bassey hasn’t experienced the best start to life in the Premier League. Last Saturday he was shown a red card during his side’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal.
