Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini made himself a name for breeding next-generation coaches, and he is convinced that at least two players in his current side are ‘already ready’ for a managing career.

A host of managers currently at the helm of a Serie A side, from Juventus’ Thiago Motta to Fiorentina’s Raffaele Palladino, played under Gasperini at Genoa and were hugely influenced by his playing style, to the extent that they still adopt many of his principles today.

However, the list of names going from the pitch to the dugout after crossing paths with the 66-year-old is set to be extended soon, as he believes Senad Kolasinac and Marten De Roon already have features which would make them good coaches once they hung up their boots.

“Everyone knows La Dea now, but it’s the finer details that make you win,” Gasperini said in an interview with Sportweek.

“The attitude of my players and that of our opponents constantly suggest adjustments, which make us unpredictable while staying true to our principles.

“Kolasinac and De Roon already know it all; they will be the Thiago Mottas and Palladinos of tomorrow, coaches who are already ready.”

De Roon is one of Gasperini’s most trusted players, having racked up more than 250 Serie A appearances at Atalanta under the Italian boss, while the defender is in his second season at the Gewiss Stadium.
