Gianluigi Donnarumma’s (26) performance against Liverpool during the week raised some eyebrows across France with the Italian international unable to keep out Harvey Elliot’s 87th minute winner.
The former AC Milan goalkeeper was further damned by comparisions with Alisson Becker (32) who made nine saves in the game and kept Paris Saint-Germain at bay during the 1-0 defeat.
Becker was the clear man of the match during an evening when PSG looked to dominate the proceedings. The Brazilian international earned plaudits across France and England with Stade Brestois head coach Eric Roy joking that “It was Jesus [in goal].”
The future of Donnarumma at the Parc des Princes has long been a topic of discussion with his contract expiring in June 2026. Some supporters have grown disillusioned with his history of mistakes in the Champions League and there have been some calls for the club to dip into the transfer market, with Lucas Chevalier frequently linked to PSG.
However, RMC Sport writes that PSG at the very least intend to stick by their goalkeeper. The display against Liverpool has done nothing to dissuade Les Parisiens from working on extending his stay beyond 2026, even if the summer could still see competition being brought in.
