Santiago Gimenez has admitted that as a child he loved AC Milan, and that Kaka encouraged him to make the move years ago if he got the chance.
After around a week of negotiations, Milan finally got a deal for Gimenez over the line with Feyenoord. The striker arrived in Italy over the weekend to undergo his medical and to meet the fans for the first time, also watching last night’s derby from the stands.
Earlier today, the club published the official statement confirming that the 23-year-old has signed ona. contract until 2029, making it a four-and-a-half year deal. The fee, as per multiple reports, is around €35m including bonuses.
Gimenez gave an interview to Milan TV (via MilanNews) and some excerpts have been released ahead of the full reveal, which we have translated below.
“When I was a kid, I loved Milan. It was my dream and when I received the call from the Rossoneri I said: ‘Wow’. I chose the number 7 because it represents the perfect number in the Bible,” he said.
“Years ago I spoke to Kaká, he encouraged me. Milan was in my destiny. The fans? It’s crazy. Seeing how they experience football with the derby was incredible.”
