The powers that be at Girona have set their sights on an up-and-coming talent from South America as a potential addition to the club’s midfield ranks.
That’s according to Relevo’s Jorge C Picon, who has on Sunday confirmed that the Blanquivermells have joined the queue of clubs interested in the signature of Federico Redondo.
On the lookout for reinforcements in the middle of the park, Redondo – son of former Milan and Real Madrid standout Fernando – has been earmarked as a potential star in the making by the Estadi Montilivi brass.
Redondo, for his part, is a 21-year-old Argentinian youth international, currently plying his trade in his home country, with Argentinos Juniors.
The youngster is a defensive midfielder by trade, but is also capable of stepping forward into a more orthodox engine room berth.
Currently away on international duty as part of Argentina’s qualification efforts for the Olympics, Redondo’s stellar performances have begun to catch the eye across the pond, in Europe.
A number of clubs are understood to have made contact over a potential deal for the Madrid-born starlet in January, but all were deterred by Argentinos’ hefty demands.
With Redondo’s terms in Buenos Aires set to expire at the end of the year, though, a departure for Europe is viewed as all but inevitable.
And the aforementioned Girona, for their part, are one such club keen to strike a deal, alongside Serie A giants Milan, and a number of sides in the Bundesliga.
