FLW have looked at two Championship sides that could look to sign the Baggies winger this summer
West Bromwich Albion winger Grady Diangana is set to leave The Hawthorns upon the expiry of his contract this summer, and other Championship clubs will surely be keen on his signature following Leeds United's previous interest.
Congolese international Diangana is nearing the end of his sixth season at The Hawthorns, and fifth as a permanent Baggies player, since his initial arrival on loan from West Ham United in the summer of 2019.
The 27-year-old has been a thorn in the side of many Championship teams over the years in blue and white, and played a key part in the Baggies' promotion to the Premier League in his debut campaign, but is now set to call time on his spell at the club, after now-sacked boss Tony Mowbray revealed that he will not be playing for the club next season.
Diangana has previously been linked with a summer move to Leeds United, but it remains to be seen if the Whites will make an approach for him now they are back in the Premier League, after their promotion was confirmed on Monday evening.
With that in mind, Football League World have picked out two Championship sides that should have the 27-year-old on their radar in the coming months, as he would make for a solid signing to add to their respective squads for next season.
Middlesbrough's inconsistencies have held them back from securing a place in the play-offs this season, and they now need to make up a three-point gap on Coventry City in the last two games of the campaign to finish inside the top six and have a chance of going up.
Boro have been the nearly men so often over the last few years in the Championship, as they have finished inside the top 10 in each of the last four full seasons, but have only reached the play-offs once in that same period.
They look set to experience a similar heartbreak over the next two weeks, and questions will no doubt be asked of Michael Carrick this summer unless they do achieve a shock promotion.
It is clear that they are going to need reinforcements in the coming transfer window, and a versatile, second-tier-proven forward like Diangana needs to be on their radar for potential incomings.
Carrick often sets up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with two wingers and a number 10, which would suit the Congolese international as he favours playing in either of those positions. It is also fair to say that the likes of Marcus Forss and Morgan Whittaker have flattered to deceive in front of goal for Boro this season, so attacking signings are needed in the summer.
As well as that, tricky winger Ben Doak was impressive in his spell at the club on loan from Liverpool, but injury cut his season short, and he seems unlikely to return to the Riverside Stadium for next season.
There is clearly space that will need to be filled in Carrick's squad for next term, and Diangana himself would surely be open to a move to the Teesside outfit, given that they consistently challenge towards the right end of the league, and would be able to offer a decent wage that likely matches what he currently earns with West Brom.
A slightly more left-field, but potentially realistic, summer destination for Diangana could be Watford, who have been consigned to another campaign in the Championship after a recent run of poor results that has seen them pick up just four points from the 21 available in the last seven games.
Tom Cleverley has won plaudits from supporters and neutrals alike for the job he has done this season in charge of the club he spent six years as a player at, but their poor current form is indicative of a squad that needs a real overhaul, with adding fresh attacking impetus surely set to be high on the agenda this summer.
The Hornets' current options in the forward areas are lacking, to say the least, with just three senior, recognised wingers in their squad as it stands, in Kwadwo Baah, Tom Ince and Rocco Vata. Giorgi Chakvetadze can also play out wide, but is usually preferred in attacking midfield.
With that said, Watford clearly need to focus on bolstering their attacking ranks, and so Diangana would be a really smart signing if they were able to convince him of a move to Vicarage Road.
The 27-year-old has been linked with both Leeds and Wolves in the past, who will each be playing in the Premier League next season, so it would be fair to assume that he may not want to join the Hornets, who have recent experience of being a top-flight club but are currently stuck in the second-tier with promotion seeming unlikely anytime soon.
He may well not be of interest to either of those clubs now, however, given that he has largely warmed the bench at The Hawthorns this season and his influence has clearly waned.
Watford could, therefore, swoop to become his next club in the coming months, and their case may well be helped by Diangana's apparent desire
