La Liga outfit Villarreal have today been dealt an altogether considerable blow on the personnel front.
This comes amid confirmation that star defender Raúl Albiol is set for an incoming spell on the sidelines.
The name of stopper Albiol has taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Castellón over the course of the last 24 hours.
This comes after the 38-year-old was a notable absentee from Villarreal training on Thursday.
Murmurs of a potential fitness problem, in turn, inevitably began to spread, surrounding a player who has featured from the off in 20 of the Yellow Submarine’s La Liga outings across the season to date.
Speaking to the media on Friday ahead of his side’s upcoming meeting with Granada, the subject of Albiol’s wellbeing was therefore inevitably put to boss Marcelino.
And Villarreal’s headmaster (as cited by Mundo Deportivo) went on to confirm that the former Napoli and Real Madrid star has indeed picked up a calf injury.
Though an exact comeback timeline is yet to be established, the problem is expected to keep Albiol on the sidelines for a period of ‘several weeks’.
