FC Barcelona have had their fair share of struggles this season, but the team has also remained united despite them. Through this unity, the Catalan giants have managed to secure their first official title of the campaign as well now. However, things could have gone much worse for Barcelona as well.
In their recent Spanish Super Cup final against Real Madrid, La Blaugrana simply outclassed their arch-rivals in every sense. Individually, tactically, and even in duels, Hansi Flick’s men were simply better prepared and they delivered on the big occasion as well.
Still, there was a particular moment where everything could have collapsed for the Catalan giants. When Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny received his red card for taking out Kylian Mbappe, Barcelona received a major scare in terms of needing to compete against Real Madrid while being a man down for the next 30 minutes or so.
However, it seemed that Hansi Flick had a plan in mind, and he just needed someone to convey it to the rest of the players on the field as the substitutes came on. Interestingly, however, the player that he chose to trust with this massive responsibility was not even an official team captain.
Instead, as highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, it was young Spaniard Marc Casado. Acting as an extension of the coach himself, Casado was called by Flick to the touch line soon after the red card and he then took all of the instructions given to him back to the pitch and gathered his teammates around him.
From the youngsters to the veterans of the team, everyone listened to him and seemed to grasp the information quite well. That much became evident after the game resumed and Barcelona managed to control the tempo well moving forward while also nullifying any threats that Carlo Ancelotti’s team tried to make despite being a man up.
Rather poetically, this faith from Hansi Flick in Marc Casado is not something that should be too surprising for fans of FC Barcelona. Previously, even one of the midfielder’s youth coaches spoke in depth about the 21-year-old leadership qualities and how he envisioned him becoming a leading figure for the team in the future.
