Kane has scored in both of Tuchel’s opening wins as England boss
Harry Kane has revealed how England have already improved in less than two weeks working with new manager Thomas Tuchel.
The German has overseen victories over Albania, 2-0, and Latvia, 3-0, in his first two matches in charge to get England up and running in 2026 World Cup qualifying.
Kane scored the second goal in both games at Wembley to extend his record tally for his country to 71 goals and get off the mark under the national team's new head coach.
Speaking to ITV after Monday night’s 3-0 win against Latvia, the captain was asked whether the performance had been better than against Albania.
“I think so,” the Bayern Munich striker replied. “I think there were definitely more patterns of play, more chances, more creative opportunities. But again it was tough, playing against a team where it’s 11 behind the ball.
“They try and make it difficult, you have to use the wide players. The guys coming off the bench made a good impact as well. Overall we can be pleased with two wins and two clean sheets as well.”
His goal against Latvia came from good work down the right channel by Reece James and Marcus Rashford, before Declan Rice squared for Kane to tap home.
Asked whether this is the blueprint for team goals under Tuchel, Kane replied: “I think so. We spoke about those areas in the box, just outside the width of the goal, where most of the assists come from.
“We had to be patient. There were times where we used the wide players to get down the wing and cross, get numbers in the box.
“Dec thought he could make the difference with that run, he did and he put a great ball across the six-yard box.“
“He [Tuchel] is fantastic,” Kane continued. “He’s settled in straight away, it’s a real pleasure to have him as the coach. The energy he’s brought, the passion, the tactical analysis on every game has been top, top drawer.
“It’s the first camp, we know we’ll get better as we go as well. But I think he’s pleased and we’re pleased to have him.”
