As reported by Bild, newly promoted Heidenheim are set to sign prolific 2. Bundesliga goalscorer Marvin Pieringer from Schalke.
It has been reported that Pieringer indicated towards the Schalke hierarchy that he intended to depart the club in order to compete in the Bundesliga for the upcoming campaign. After little speculation, it is a transfer that has happened quickly with Heidenheim already agreeing on a €1.9m transfer fee with the Royal Blues.
The deal will also be significantly lucrative for Schalke. With well-known financial issues combined with relegation from the Bundesliga; the inclusion of realistic bonus payments as well as a 15% sell-on clause was too good for Die Knappen to turn down. Especially considering Pieringer’s contract would expire in twelve months.
Last season, the 23-year-old scored 14 goals and recorded 10 assists in just 26 matches for Paderborn during his season-long loan spell. Averaging nearly a goal contribution every game in the second tier last season, only a leg injury would prevent Pieringer from increasing his impressive record.
As for Schalke, while the loss of a proven, quality asset in the 2. Bundesliga will be hard to compensate for, they do have a plethora of attacking options. The addition of Bryan Lasme from Arminia Bielefeld, alongside seasoned strikers such as Simon Terodde and Sebastian Polter will be complemented with the raw talent of 19-year-old Keke Topp.
