FLW's Millwall fan pundit is confident with the right backing in January, the Lions could reach the play-offs.
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more...
Millwall have been on an excellent run of form in recent weeks and January could provide a real opportunity for the Lions to cement a play-off push with some more investment in the playing squad.
Neil Harris is working wonders once again at Millwall. Whilst his side has an average age of 26.8 thanks to experienced players such as Ryan Leonard, George Saville and Joe Bryan, there's a selection of young talent striking the right balance at the moment.
The winter window could turn out to be a great opportunity for the Lions to finally progress into the Championship play-offs, something the South-East London outfit hasn't done before. More investment could make all the difference in another typically tight race to secure a place in the top-six.
Millwall's starting lineup is beginning to gel, but a few injuries could see the stronger teams eclipse their chances; new additions in January would be warranted.
With the right decisions made in January and backing provided, this season could turn into a season to remember for the Lions.
FLW's Millwall fan pundit, Chris Chapman (Chat With Chaps), has sent one transfer related demand to the owners for the January transfer window.
"We find ourselves at the moment, seventh in the table, we're 12 games, so I think it's fairly representative of what's to come in terms of how the season's going to play out," Chris said.
"Looking at what I've seen, yes we've got Leeds United and Sunderland to go, I'd put them in the top echelons of the league. As for the rest, I think the quality of this league is not as strong as it was last season, and I personally feel if we can keep with the form and be in the top 10 come January, with a bit of investment, who knows? Why couldn't this be the year we get into the play-offs?
"That would be my demand, if you like, for the owners, in terms of what we need. It really depends on who goes out the doors."
Retention is key for Millwall, like all Championship clubs, with Chris outlining the players he wants to see Harris keep hold of.
He continued: "I would like us to keep Romain Esse until the end of the season, so I think that's one, same with Japhet Tanganga, and I'd just like to add one or two players into the mix."
When it comes to the positions he wants to see strengthened in January, our Millwall fan pundit was quite clear.
He concluded: "So, I would like to add another forward, I'd like to add a left-back, to give Joe Bryan the competition he needs, and I would like to add one more striker depending on what happens with Josh Coburn, who could be recalled from Middlesbrough and there are a lot of rumours flying around with Tom Bradshaw leaving at the end of the season.
"At the moment, the squad is in fairly good shape, especially once all of our players are back fit and ready. Maybe more cover is needed at centre-back, Jake Cooper and Tanganga are fantastic, but we could do with cover.
"This is due to having an aging Murray Wallace and Shaun Hutchinson and a Wes Harding, who Harris doesn't even rate as he doesn't even get into the match day squad.
"They would be demands, and if we genuinely think we can push for the play-offs, then a little bit of investment could see us go a long way."
It would be hard to argue with Millwall's current form why they shouldn't be considered for a place in the play-offs.
Harris has developed a brilliant structure so far this season, built on a solid defensive unit, underlined by the form above.
If the Lions do get the investment needed for a play-off push, it will only add strength to an already decent squad. They are firing on all cylinders at the moment and can continue to do that with the right tweaks here and there.
If the likes of Esse and Tanganga can be retained, the Lions can push for it. Their only real concern at the moment is their lack of goals, and if investment does come in for a striker, the Millwall faithful will be feeling confident.
Time will tell the fortunes of Harris' side, but there is no reason why the Lions can't cement their position in the top six this season.
