Iniesta comments on Barcelona maestro being compared to him – ‘The important thing is…’ | OneFootball

In an interview with Que t’hi Jugues on the occasion of Sant Jordi, former Barcelona captain and club legend Andres Iniesta has given his two cents on star midfielder of the current team, Pedri, being compared to him, as well as the team’s chances of winning the treble.

Even though he is only 22 years old, Pedri is undoubtedly one of the best, if not the best. in his position in the world and is an absolute key cog in the centre of the park for Barça.

Given the position he plays in and the way he operates, there have been constant comparisons drawn between the Spanish international and Iniesta, with Pedri even taking over the No. 8 shirt at Barcelona this season.

Iniesta gave his thoughts on the comparisons, stating that Pedri has some qualities that remind him of himself.

“There are things we can be similar in, because he is a midfielder. At the end of the day, the important thing is that he makes his own way,” said Iniesta.

Pedri has played 51 matches in all competitions for Barcelona this season, notching up five goals and seven assists in the process.

The 22-year-old’s contributions go way beyond those numbers though as he is the player that makes the team tick from the centre of the park.

Naturally, Pedri has been one of the major driving forces behind Barcelona being in contention for the treble this season as they sit atop the La Liga standings, are in the Copa del Rey final and the UEFA Champions League semi-final.

When asked about Barça’s possible treble, Iniesta said: “It’s nice to talk about it. Obviously, everyone knows how difficult it is, but it’s better to face it in this way.”
