Injured Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal has revealed the personal challenge he has set for himself as he continues his recovery from a serious knee injury.
The Spanish full-back suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament, a rupture of the lateral collateral ligament, and damage to the tendon in his right leg on 5 October during a game against Villarreal.
Since then, he has been undergoing a lengthy and demanding rehabilitation process, which is now entering its final stages.
Speaking on El Chiringuito, Carvajal shared an optimistic update, as he said:
“It is going very well, step by step. The challenge is to be ready by the end of May. Let us see if we can make it.”
The road to recovery has been anything but easy. Carvajal has spent six months working behind the scenes, but he has remained focused and positive throughout.

Less than a month ago, Real Madrid published footage of Carvajal training on the Valdebebas pitch, signalling his steady progress towards full fitness. In the video, he reflected on the small but meaningful milestones in his rehabilitation, saying:
“When you step on the grass with your boots on, you see the comeback closer. I never thought I would have that feeling when doing a very light, individual training session.”
Should his timeline hold, the defender could be available, or at least integrated into the group, in time for the FIFA Club World Cup, where Real Madrid will face Al-Hilal in their opening match on 18 June.
When asked about the possibility of featuring in the tournament, Carvajal simply replied: “Hopefully.”
