Ben Jacobs has just put out a piece for TeamTalk which shoots down the idea that Chelsea are planning to sign a new high profile goalkeeper for the first team.

Players like Emi Martinez and Jordan Pickford have been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge – but not with any real conviction or from any good sources.

Sanchez has had his good moments and his bad moments – but the bad ones get a lot more attention, and we’ve despaired plenty of times about his clangers. The way that Enzo Maresca has his team playing means Sanchez is forced to play the ball short a lot, which puts him in awkward positions sometimes.

Filip Jorgensen arrived in the summer from Villareal, but there’s never been any really clear sign that the club intend to make him first choice anytime soon. It felt like an opportunistic deal to get a talented young player rather than a succession plan.

Jacobs backs up the idea that Chelsea are happy with their options, and are not imminently looking to change things.

Chelsea sporting structure back their goalkeepers – and their decisions

While many fans may be keen to see Chelsea upgrade on Robert Sanchez, we’ve never bought the idea that the club agreed that he’s blown his chance and will never be good enough to be trophy winning stopper with the club.

In fact, we fully believe the stories like this one which regularly come out making it clear that the sporting structure still backs their decisions to sign both of the current first team options, and they’ll stand by that unless things really start to go horribly wrong.

Plus there’s the young Mike Penders in the pipeline – he’s still far off being ready, but if the commitment to the pair in the squad now lasts a couple of years at least, it will be fascinating to watch his development once he starts getting regular first team football somewhere.
