With less than 48 hours for the transfer window to end, Inter Miami started looking and asking for some players. According to Juvelive, the Herons have a concrete interest in Juventus player Weston McKennie. The Italian club put its price on McKennie; $14 million is the cost for the American midfielder.
If both clubs reach an agreement for the player, this would be the first time the former Shalke- 04 set foot in the MLS. McKennie went to Europe at a very young age, where his only experience with US soccer was at the Dallas Football Academy. After flying into Europe, he played in countries like Germany, England and Italy. But this time, without minutes on the vecchia signora and the addition of new players on the team, McKennie lost his spot in the starting line-up. Therefore, like happens with every sports story, no minutes, straight to the transfer list.
I think I don't even have to ask this question realistically. McKennie is a world-class midfielder. Of course, he would help the Herons. Let's bring up not only his positive attributes but also his flaws. So we have the perfect view of the kind of player he is.
Inter Miami could benefit from Mckennie's overall play-making. What do I mean by this? Weston is a midfielder with speed, pass, and dribbling, in addition to his great physicality. If you looked, not even the Juventus games, but some USMNT games, you'd understand what I'm talking about.
All across the midfield, McKennie is a player who needs to be involved with the ball constantly. His impressive passing abilities, both short and long, greatly benefit the team most of the time. He rarely loses the ball in a 1v1 duel due to his strength and jump. He fights the other players on the ground and in the air for the ball.
However, on the other side of the table, Weston McKennie is not a solid choice when it comes to defending. His poor man coverage leaves his team in the open, creating huge gaps behind the midfield line. As a result, opposing players consistently have free teammates to exploit for attacking opportunities.
But in the end, Weston Mckennie would be a perfect signing for Inter Miami. Do you think the same?
