It would still be too early to say that Inter and Atalanta are the two teams going head-to-head for the Serie A title.

Napoli are still certainly in the running.

And the likes of Lazio and Fiorentina aren’t far off even with recent setbacks. Even Juventus and AC Milan could always have something to say.

But the reality is that on form, Inter and Atalanta are the two outstanding teams in the Italian top flight.

And looking at the table, the Nerazzurri and La Dea are the two sides with their fates in their own hands.

Inter and Atalanta will also meet in the Supercoppa Italiana semifinal next month.

That match will certainly act as a potential barometer for the title race.

The last two meetings between the teams have resulted in emphatic 4-0 victories for the Nerazzurri. But they will certainly not be taking anything like that for granted again.

The Supercoppa could be an unwelcome distraction for both Inter and Atalanta.

Furthermore, both teams are also facing the prospect of tough Coppa Italia quarterfinals in February, with Lazio and Bologna respectively.

And then there is the Champions League. Both Inter and Atalanta are very much fighting to qualify directly for the round of sixteen.

These extra commitments will push Inter and Atalanta’s squads to their absolute limits.
