Matias Vecino is nearing a return to full fitness after playing for Inter’s Primavera today, according to the Nerazzurri’s academy coach Armando Madonna.

Vecino played 69 minutes of the league match against Genoa, scoring the opener in a 3-1 win, as he continues to step up his recovery from a knee injury, which has kept him on the sidelines since last July.

Speaking to FCInterNews.it after the match, Madonna praised Vecino for his attitude and also touched upon how his physical condition seemed to be improving.

“First of all, it’s not up to me to judge Vecino but I can talk about the attitude he had in the dressing room and he conducted himself in a fantastic way with his teammates by making himself available,” Madonna assured.

“The feeling is that his condition looks very good, at least it was for this game.

“I was pleased with the enthusiasm he brought and what he gave to the team.

“He proved to be a man, we know that he is a high-level player, Antonio Conte’s assistant coach Cristian Stellini was there to judge him.”

Vecino, who is under contract with Inter until the end of next season, last played first-team football in last season’s 2-2 draw at Hellas Verona before he underwent an operation on his knee.

Since joining Inter in 2017 from Fiorentina, the 29-year-old has made 96 appearances, in which he has scored 11 goals and provided six assists.
