Ahead of the summer, the goalkeeping situation at Manchester City is one story to watch for. Doubts surround the future of both Ederson and Stefan Ortega. Steve Kay has previously reported for Football Transfers that Manchester City have begun negotiations to sign Benfica’s impressive young keeper Anatoliy Trubin. Now a new report from Spain indicates that Espanyol’s impressive young keeper Joan Garcia is a player that City have an interest in signing. It now seems that the world champions are making moves to find their next long-term goalkeeper.
La Grada Ràdio’s Robert Hernando has reported that Manchester City have joined Arsenal and Real Madrid in having an interest in signing Joan Garcia. Furthermore, the report indicates that Garcia would either prefer to stay in Spain or move to England this summer. It now remains to be seen if City do pursue a move for Joan Garcia who is regarded as one of the most promising young keepers in Europe.
It does appear that Ederson or Stefan Ortega will leave Manchester City this summer. At this stage, it isn’t clear which player will depart the club. There is always the possibility that both could leave. Irrespective of how that scenario unfolds Manchester City do need to find their next long-term goalkeeper. It seems that is the option they are currently exploring.
Either Anatoliy Trubin or Joan Garcia could potentially become City’s next number-one keeper. Both players are the right age to become a mainstay in goal. Both players are excellent young keepers who can play with the ball at their feet. That is a must for any keeper Manchester City sign this summer. Especially if Ederson were to depart this summer. Ederson’s ability on the ball has been a valuable weapon in Pep Guardiola’s side’s play. They are both quality shot-stoppers and when you combine that with their all-around ability you can see why those two would be high on Manchester City’s list of potential signings.
But it does seem as the goalkeeping situation unfolds at Manchester City that they are making moves to find their next long-term goalkeeper. Who that could be remains to be seen. But if Ederson did depart this summer either Anatoliy Trubin or Joan Garcia would be a suitable replacement. But it may need Ederson or Stefan Ortega for that matter, to make a decision on their future before City step up their efforts to sign either player as recent reports suggest.
