Pep Guardiola admits it will be very difficult to replace Kevin De Bruyne should the midfielder leave Manchester City when his contract expires at the end of this season.

De Bruyne returned to the starting line-up for the 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Wednesday, scoring a goal and setting another up as City ended their run of seven games without a win in all competitions.

But with the midfielder out of contract at the end of this campaign, Guardiola admits he does not know whether he will stay for longer.

On the contract discussions, he said: “I’m not involved in that.

“I would like to have him 23 years old and sign a contract for the next 10 years. But we will see

“There are players (for who) the impact on the legacy of this club will be eternal, will be forever.

“Of course it is not easy (to replace him), but as a club, we have to find, in the moment it is going to happen, we have to find the best way.”
