Board member for sport Markus Krösche, head coach Dino Toppmöller and Mario Götze review the Bundesliga opener at Dortmund.
Board member for sport Markus Krösche: “That one minute decided the game. We should’ve scored, and then BVB transition quickly and score a good goal to make it 1-0. These games come down to little details. Overall I have a good feeling. Of course, there are things we can improve on. Particularly when the opponents are increasing the pressure, we need to remain proactive and disrupt them earlier. When we win the ball, we need to show more composure and create more chances.”
Head coach Dino Toppmöller: “We asked for a brave performance and that’s what the team delivered. Despite that, we’re going home with a 2-0 defeat, which doesn’t feel entirely deserved – even though Dortmund had more possession and shots. It’s frustrating because we set out to get something here. It’s important next week that we don’t pat ourselves on the back and say it was actually quite good. We’ll speak critically.”
Mario Götze: “It hurts that we’ve not come away with anything today. If we score the first goal, we win the game. In the end we didn’t have enough possession to win here. You don’t usually get many chances here, and that was the case again today. After 60 minutes, when you’ve already done a lot of running and work, it becomes even more important to make the spaces tight and stand firm at the back. We didn’t manage to do that until the end today.”
