The arrival of Hansi Flick on the FC Barcelona bench has led to a lot of changes in the team. While the German did not get many new players in the last summer transfer window, his preferences regarding the players he inherited from Xavi Hernández are clearly different than those of his predecessor.
One of the players who has clearly been at a disadvantage from this change in preferences is the defender Ronald Araújo, who was a clear starter under Xavi but whose status in the team is not that marked now.
Similarly, Frenkie de Jong’s importance in the team has also significantly declined, as he has not been able to get even an important substitute role in the team since his return from injury, let alone a place in the starting eleven.

The Dutchman has been getting very few minutes lately, and as SPORT has reported, his countryman and former Barcelona player, Ruud Gullit, believed it is now time for Frenkie to end his time at the Catalan club and look to regain his form at another club.
The former Dutch midfielder also had a clear favorite destination for Frenkie in mind:
“I hope he finds a solution. I hope a club that suits him approaches so he can leave Barça. It’s time to look for something else. Which club would be perfect? Bayern. Bayern would be perfect for Frenkie. It would be fantastic for them.”
Despite the poor performances since his return from injury, Gullit believed the Barcelona midfielder can get back to his best only by playing more minutes:
“I would like De Jong to get back to playing football. He shouldn’t be sitting on the bench. He’s 27 years old and in his prime. He needs to change this situation now.”
The now-retired Dutchman also believed the constant speculation about his future can also end up affecting Frenkie’s performances:
“There’s a lot of noise. That’s normal in the football world when it comes to offers, especially for a player who isn’t getting minutes. I think Saudi clubs should also explore signing him because he’s an exceptional player.”
There is no doubt that Frenkie is going through a difficult situation at Barcelona, and with several midfielders ahead of him in the pecking order, this situation is not expected to change for the better any time soon.
Thus, Gullit’s advice is quite sound for him, and it needs to be seen whether he will follow it or fight to get back his starting position at the Blaugrana club going forward.
