Jacob Ramsey found himself getting in on the goalscoring action during the 3-0 victory over Preston North End. In a game that became more open for Unai Emery's side as the second half went on, the England international did an excellent job in finding the back of the net.

Receiving the ball from Lucas Digne, the midfielder did well to make something out of something of a seeming nothing moment in the match. With a comfortable 2-0 lead at that point, the pace had slowed down, and the ball was being somewhat nonchalantly passed around the halfway line.

Instead, his turn saw him with a one-track frame of mind. Ramsey charged right toward David Cornell and appeared to catch PNE off guard by his quick change of pace. Making the most of the created opportunity, his low-driven strike found its way past the keeper.

For the AVFC academy graduate, it marked a fantastic crowning moment for his team and himself personally, as that ensured safe passage through to the FA Cup semi-finals. Only shortly before, Ramsey had a good run in between the center-backs that nearly resulted in a score.

The well-timed run and pass from Marcus Rashford showed a glimpse of what this attacking side is capable of at any moment under Unai Emery. They feel comfortable in possession. Then, when needed, they can ramp it up at any time and use a quick burst to threaten the opposition.

Being in contention for pieces of silverware late is all anyone wants. In the case of Villa, they will look to win two matches at Wembley to secure their trophy. Emery's men will also back themselves to continue to impress in Champions League as they are about to face PSG.

Critical stretch for Aston Villa

Speaking with the media after the win, he pointed out how many meaningful games there are in the upcoming weeks:

"We want to do well in the Premier League, Champions League, and the FA Cup... A busy schedule, but we've got a big team."

It can be a lot on the legs, but Emery has a talented group with plenty of depth. If players like Ramsey continue to play at a high level, the late-stage appearances could soon turn into something more by the end of this season.
