Media publications keep telling us all how happy Chelsea are with their current squad and to not expect much business this January transfer window.

Other than perhaps some outgoings, there is not much to be expected on the incoming market at Chelsea this month apparently, if anything at all.

Sources: Two Bournemouth defenders ‘ones to watch’ for Chelsea in January, Joao Felix staying, Goalkeeper on hold, more…

Although they are all saying the same thing, none of them are actually ruling out any new arrivals at all though, which is intriguing to say the least.

I do think we might see a new centre back arrive at Chelsea this month at the very least, and maybe another player, potentially a striker. But I also do believe the club when they push out these briefings to the media saying that they aren’t looking to sign players this month and any new big arrivals will wait until the summer.

They keep trying to reassure themselves that they are happy with the current squad and do not need to add anything to it this month. But I disagree.

Chelsea and Maresca content

Maresca happy with his squad apparently

According to a report from Football London, Chelsea are not expecting to conduct too much in the way of incoming-related transfer business this month. The club’s hierarchy are happy, as is Enzo Maresca, with the current crop of players.

If they are happy and content with our defence right now then they shouldn’t be working in football! We need at least two new centre backs, a goalkeeper upgrade, and a new striker who is a more physical profile to Nicolas Jackson. For me, it’s that simple, we still need a new core, and maybe even a new defensive midfielder too.

But I’d expect most of that to wait until the summer, especially due to the fact they keep publicly backing themselves and the squad in these updates they push out through the media.
