Chiesa Eyes Redemption Despite Frustrating Season

Commitment, in elite sport, is rarely tested in times of triumph. It is in struggle — amidst injury, poor form, and public doubt — that a player’s resolve is truly measured. For Liverpool forward Federico Chiesa, the 2024/25 season has been anything but smooth sailing, yet reports now suggest he is not ready to give up on Merseyside.

Summer Signing Yet to Find Rhythm

Signed from Juventus for a modest £12.5 million last summer, the Italian attacker arrived with high expectations and a reputation forged in the crucible of international tournaments. His pedigree was undeniable, his work rate celebrated, and many touted the move as a clever, low-risk addition to an already stacked Liverpool squad.

But football is as cruel as it is compelling. As the Premier League campaign nears its end, Chiesa has made just 11 appearances across all competitions — only three of them in the league — and has yet to start under Arne Slot. His first full 90 minutes in red didn’t arrive until late January in a Champions League outing against PSV Eindhoven.

The setbacks have not come from tactical incompatibility alone. Injuries, persistent and ill-timed, have haunted his transition. These physical disruptions, coupled with fierce internal competition for places, have left his Liverpool journey stalled almost from the outset.

Serie A Clubs Monitor Situation

Naturally, rumours of a return to Italy have been persistent. Napoli, Lazio, and Inter Milan were all linked in the January window. More recently, AS Roma and Claudio Ranieri are reported to view the winger as a central figure in their summer rebuild for the 2025/26 season, according to La Repubblica.

But such speculation, while persistent, appears wide of the mark.

Journalist Sets Record Straight

According to Christian Falk, chief correspondent for BILD, writing in his Fact Files column for the Daily Briefing, the player has no intention of leaving Anfield.

“❌Not True: Ex-Bayern candidate Federico Chiesa wants to leave Liverpool in the summer. He wants to fulfil his contract until summer 2028. He was also not interested in the winter interest from Napoli, Inter Milan and Lazio because he wants to assert himself on Merseyside.”

Falk added that the player’s difficulties stem from his fitness challenges, not from a lack of commitment: “The fact that he has had problems so far is due to his two injuries. He wants to show Liverpool this season just how valuable he can be.”

Desire to Succeed Remains Strong

What emerges from Falk’s report is a picture of a professional intent on reclaiming his role. He is not searching for an exit strategy but a fresh opportunity — and perhaps vindication. Under Slot’s structured system, opportunities may still arise for those who remain patient and prepared.

The Liverpool hierarchy will take comfort in that resolve. Whether he plays a prominent role next season remains to be seen, but his desire to compete, despite limited minutes and media speculation, speaks volumes.

Our View – Anfield Index Analysis

For Liverpool fans, this report will divide opinion. On one hand, it’s encouraging to hear a player resisting the easy route out. In a squad known for high standards, commitment counts, and fans appreciate those willing to fight for their place — especially when form and fitness have not been kind.

That said, this has been a quiet campaign for the forward in question. A squad role was expected, but the complete absence from Premier League starting XIs will concern many. Supporters will ask if the team can afford to carry such limited contribution for another season, especially with younger, fitter options emerging from the academy or elsewhere in Europe.

Still, the story isn’t over. A strong pre-season under Slot could reignite Chiesa’s Liverpool career. The talent has always been there. What’s needed now is rhythm, trust, and — crucially — minutes. And if the player truly wants to “show Liverpool just how valuable he can be,” he’ll know next season is the final window to prove it.

This summer won’t be about finding a move. It will be about finding himself again.
