Luka Jovic has gone from Milan outcast to core of their attack in just a few weeks, but it is by no means certain he will stay at San Siro next season.

The Serbia international scored four goals in 12 competitive games this term, including a brace in Wednesday’s 3-0 Coppa Italia semi-final victory over Inter.

With Tammy Abraham and January signing Santiago Gimenez misfiring, Jovic has become the first choice for coach Sergio Conceicao.

It is a remarkable change in fortunes, considering Milan were trying to loan him out mid-season to Monza, Fenerbahce or other Turkish clubs, only for him to refuse.

However, his contract only runs to June 30 with an option to extend, and he is asking for specific terms to sign a new deal.

According to Calciomercato.com, that is a two-year contract rather than the one year with an option for the club to extend by another.

His current salary is €1.3m per season net.

Real Madrid had paid a massive €63m to purchase Jovic from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2019, but he struggled to make an impact and was handed to Fiorentina for free in 2022.

The sale to Milan a year later for €500,000 was again initially disappointing until the last few weeks.
