In a huge development, MARCA reports that FC Barcelona have reached an agreement for the contract renewals of key players and club captains Ronald Araujo and Pedri following discussions between Deco, the club’s football director, and the players’ representatives.

The agreements are finalised for both players until 2030, with only the signatures remaining. The official announcement is expected in the coming days, and it will almost certainly take place before the transfer window closes on February 3.

The Araujo saga ends positively

It must be remembered that only a couple of weeks ago, Araujo was staring at an uncertain future at Barcelona, with Juventus pushing hard for his signing.

The Uruguayan appeared to be on his way out of the club, but the Bianconeri’s offer was not up to Barça’s valuation of the player. In the meantime, Deco spoke with the player and managed to convince him to stay at the club.

After that, Deco met with Araujo’s representatives in Barcelona, and they made significant progress on the renewal. The final agreement was reached a few days later and an announcement is now imminent.

It remains to be seen what will happen in the summer if the 25-year-old decides to leave again, but for that to occur, the financial offer would need to be substantial.

Barcelona have no intention of parting ways with their second captain, and in fact, the club has never wanted to do so.

What about Pedri?

The conversations regarding Pedri’s renewal were much more straightforward, with both sides consistently aiming for the player’s continuity at the club.

The only remaining issue was reaching an agreement on the financial terms, which took the expected amount of time but proceeded without any major issues.

The Blaugrana sporting management regarded Pedri’s renewal as a strategic priority given his excellent performances this season.

The 22-year-old showcased his importance and influence last night against Benfica, helping Barcelona pull off an unlikely comeback win. One of the club captains this season, his presence in the project is seen as integral.
