In a concerning development, journalist Melchor Ruiz of COPE reports that Real Madrid defender David Alaba is a doubt for the weekend La Liga clash against Alaves due to a thigh problem.

The 32-year-old veteran star started in the midweek UEFA Champions League encounter against Arsenal and played 80 minutes at the Emirates as his team fell to a shocking 4-0 defeat in the quarter-final first leg.

Following the match, Alaba did not train with the rest of the group on Thursday and did some individual work inside the Valdebebas training facilities.

The Austrian international was once again not part of the training session today and now it has emerged that he is dealing with a strain in his right thigh.

As such, Alaba’s availability for Sunday evening’s clash against Alaves away in Vitoria is now under serious doubt.

Problems for Ancelotti

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti had been considering the thought of resting Antonio Rudiger and Raul Asencio for the weekend encounter, knowing that he needs the pair fit and fresh for next week’s do-or-die game against Arsenal.

However, this development concerning Alaba throws a spanner in the works as the manager will now be forced to play one of Rudiger or Asencio against Alaves.

Real Madrid have have time until tomorrow to see whether the former Bayern Munich defender’s condition improves and whether he can recover in time to face Alaves on Sunday.

However, given his recent history with injuries, it might be likely that no risks are taken with the 32-year-old defender.
