Juve’s second pre-season friendly ended in a 2-2 with Brest in Pescara. It was an encounter which gave further insights into the Bianconeri’s pre-season preparations ahead of the start of the season, which is scheduled to kick off on 19th August.
Juve started the match well and immediately looked to keep possession, but after five minutes they had Di Gregorio to thank for a spectacular double save to deny Brest the opening goal.
Juventus’ first real effort on goal came in the 22nd minute, with Weah’s long range effort forcing the goalkeeper into a save. A minute later, Vlahovic came very close to finding the back of the net via a header from a corner.
It was a first half that inevitably felt the effects of the heat, and as the first period wore on the game was fairly evenly balanced, with chances few and far between. Juve tried to put their stamp on the game but were unable to create many opportunities of note, whilst Brest were very organised without posing much of an attacking threat.
The game came to life in the second period, with the inevitable large number of substitutions by both Juve and their opponents Brest – who finished third in Ligue 1 last season – causing the game to open up, and in the 51st minute Camara found space in between the lines and beat Perin.
It was the wake-up call that Juve needed, and just six minutes later they won a penalty when Locatelli was brought down in the box by Martin. Vlahovic converted the spot kick to tie the score at 1-1.
The match became a higher intensity encounter, with Brest continuing to try and restore their advantage, meanwhile for the Bianconeri, the Brazilians had entered the stage and were seeking to make an impact. As soon as he was introduced, Douglas Luiz began to have an impact on the game, first testing the goalkeeper’s reflexes with a dangerous effort, before teeing up Danilo in space to give Juve the lead in the 71st minute.
In the 76th minute, Juventus had the chance to put the game to bed through Weah, but they were unable to convert, and then in the 83rd minute Brest got in behind Juve’s high line and Camblan got on the end of a low cross to equalise.
This turned out to be the last chance of the match. The pre-season preparation continues with the next match taking place on Sunday 11th August in Gothenburg where we will face Atletico Madrid.
