Harry Kane insists Bayern Munich ‘have belief’ they can turn the Champions League quarter-final around, clarified his comments on Inter celebration, and looks forward to ‘another battle’ with Francesco Acerbi.
It kicks off at San Siro on Wednesday at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT).
The Nerazzurri won the first leg 2-1 in Munich with goals from Lautaro Martinez and Davide Frattesi, around the temporary Thomas Muller equaliser.
Kane had one of the key moments in the match when he missed a sitter one-on-one with Yann Sommer, hitting the woodwork.
“I don’t sleep well after games anyway, and it’s even harder after I miss chances,” revealed the striker in his press conference this evening.
“I said after the game, I’m more worried about not having chances, as when I miss them, it means I was in the right place. I expect myself to score those sort of chances, it didn’t happen on the night, that’s football.
“I think the fact we’re having those chances should give us belief. We hope to be more clinical, we know we can do better in those situations. It’s a big game, a big moment.”
Kane confused the Italian media by suggesting he saw Inter players celebrating as if they had already won the tie in the first leg, a claim he reiterated in this press conference.
“Maybe it was just the emotions after the game, it felt like that. I don’t think it’s a big deal, I have huge respect for them as a team and a club, it’s just when you’ve conceded at the last minute, there are some emotions.
“Not many teams beat Bayern Munich at the Allianz, so I understand that. If we win tomorrow, I’m sure there will be a celebration too. This is football, it is what it is, I’m not thinking too much about that.”

Will Bayern Munich’s feelings about that celebration act as extra motivation for them at San Siro?
“We have enough motivation anyway, we believe that we can turn the tie around, that we had good moments in that game and it could’ve taken another direction.
“I don’t think Inter will take it for granted either, they know it will be a tough battle for 90 minutes, or 120 minutes. I don’t expect them to be complacent.
“We’ve got to expect them to be at a high level, but we have to be more clinical in the final third. We’ve got to go out there and do it tomorrow.”

Have Bayern Munich practiced taking penalties in training, in case it goes to extra time and even penalties?
“I always practice my penalties the day before games, so this is no different,” insisted Kane.
“We felt after that game that we played really well and can definitely turn it around in the second leg. I can only lean on past experiences, many quarter-finals and big games, to help the team not just with goals, but defending, passing, holding the ball up, I try to lead by example.”

Inter too have experience, having played in the Champions League Final only two years ago, losing a tight showdown with Manchester City.
“Really good team, strong both going forward and defensively. They caused us a few problems with the transitions in the first leg, their three midfielders were really good, both on the ball and with their energy off it.
“It’s the Champions League quarter-final, we expect to face some of the best teams and tomorrow will be another tough game. They will have their moments, we’ll have ours too, so we’ll see how it unfolds.”
Francesco Acerbi said that Kane is one of the best strikers in the world, having previously neutralised the likes of Erling Haaland.
“We had a good battle last week,” confirmed the England international. “He’s got a lot of experience and knowhow against top players, so I enjoy playing against the best defenders in the world.
“I appreciate the compliment, I am a Number 9 who can play in various different ways, so whatever the game demands, I try to be my best version. It’ll be another good battle tomorrow night and I’m looking forward to it,” noted Kane.
